The hardest thing to do is believe in yourself after everyone else has said to you, you don't have it or why are you chasing this dream. Get a real job. You have to still believe after you have heard it all. Someone will see what you have if you do not give up on your dream in this modeling industry.

Part of making it in the modeling business is traveling. Taking trips and spending time in those cities that give you a better chance to grow and make connections. You will not always be flown into a city on someone else's expense. Sometimes you will need to save up some money and invest in yourself.

If you’ve been longing how to become a music video model, here is a great idea for you. In applying to this profession, an experience is not required; however, a bit of dancing, acting, or modeling talent can be a plus factor for your acceptance as a model. These music video models who are also called video vixens, are taken by casting directors, talent agencies and modeling agencies to participate in music videos.

If you’re too alert then you won’t appear too relaxed. If an experienced director is auditioning you then they might put this down to stage fright. They might just judge you on what you’re saying rather than how uptight you appear. It’s all very well having fresh look at your acting audition, but if your eyes aren’t looking bright and interested then you’re making life difficult for yourself! Make sure that you have a good night’s sleep before your acting audition. Remember – this is a very important day – you need to look your best and have no bags under your eyes!

NEVER "lose your cool" with anyone you work with or with paparrazi who may throw an utterly disrespectful question and/or remark your way. Not every question thrown your way demands that you have to answer. If you want to say something-you can say "I prefer not to answer" or "I have no comment" (Remember comments/remarks can always come back to haunt you-you are a professional model and you do not have any time for that).

Like the phony agent, a workshop or teacher may ask for an exorbitant registration fee and demand that you have photographs taken by their photographer. None of the unions representing performers will recommend any lessons. You may want to contact one of the Community Colleges in your area for classes in theatre, radio or television.

Practice as much as possible. It takes time, experience, and especially practice to be a star on the runway. Always be in runway mode whether you are walking down the street or down the hallway to the kitchen. Believe, those who master fashion modeling have studied and practiced to get to the tip top.

High Fashion and Runway Female Model Careers - These are the top of the list and you need to be 5’8″ for most agencies to consider you Commercial – All body types, sizes, height and looks considered although the average for female fashion models is around 5’6″. Be careful! Do NOT have a modeling agency print your comp card. If you do - they will put their logo on it. To make sure your best assets shine, there are a few basic guidelines to follow. Based on two distinct poses, a forward lean and a backward lean, any model with any breast size can maximize cleavage. When leaning forward, either bring your arms together at your waist, keep your arms straight at the elbows and clasp your hands together below your waist, or simply cross your arms. When leaning backward, raise your arms about your shoulders and head, keep your arms apart, and always slouch for the best cleavage results.

Don't ever do anything that you might be sorry for later. What you do today can affect your career later down the road. "If you pose for a photo that you cannot show your family and friends, and be proud of it, it wasn't worth doing". Mainly YOU should be proud of it.

Be confident, and let that confidence shine through with every smile, move and pose that you make. You may be the most beautiful or most perfect person physically for the job, but without confidence, all that beauty will go for naught.

The Foundation Now, you'll want to use a good, solid foundation and apply it evenly over the face. Foundation application is very simple but is misunderstood by even some professional makeup artists. Match the foundation to your chin and neckline. If you miss this step, you and the camera will see a sudden change of color from your face to the neck or upper chest. Some makeup artists even apply makeup to the neck and shoulders! Why you ask? To match the body to the face. You will have no need to apply makeup to your body (except to hide blemishes) if you follow the suggestion of matching your makeup from the face to the neck. When you have completed applying your foundation, just apply the rest of your facial makeup as you would normally but apply in heavier amounts for the camera and lights. Powder Powder! Powder! Powder! Be sure to remember the powder! I'm sure you've seen makeup artists apply makeup to actors to get them ready for a TV show or the movies. If you have you must have noticed that the makeup artist is constantly patting the actors face with a powder applicator. Have you wondered why? The reason is that powder, and lots of it, is necessary to create that beautiful matte finish which is always present in a great portfolio. "But I never use powder." you may say. Even so, please use it for your model photo shoot. Powder makes the difference between a beautiful photo and just a photo. When applying powder, use a lighter shade under the eyes to help eliminate any shadows or dark circles that the concealer didn't take care of.

Keep in mind that modeling is a business, not a personal venture. You need to be prepared to negotiate with prospective employers, regarding everything from pay to content. Don't just drop out of contact because you don't like what's offered - either negotiate or say, "Thanks, but no thanks." You never know, the employer you turn down could well have your dream job later - and if you treat him or her rudely or with disrespect, you'll likely miss out.

Always try to be rested before a shoot, especially if alot of travel is involved. The best shoots are ones where you feel rested and fresh.

Read as many books as you can about the business. The more you read the better you will be. Education is very important in the modeling business.

Although the camera is the ultimate focal point of a modeling photo shoot, great models do not look directly into the camera. To enhance the quality of your photo shoot, look away from the camera with a mix of head and eye poses. Looking off to the right or left side, or tiling your neck to either side can help you avoid direct eye contact with the camera. In many cases, your head and neck can remain stationary in your modeling pose—and your eyes can do all the work. Head and eye positions, coupled with personable facial expressions make for great model poses.

If an agency or person contacts you about paying you to model and sending you a check in advance, BEWARE! They will send you a check for more than what they say they will pay you and they will ask you to send the extra cash back to them. Please understand this is a SCAM! It will sound like a great opportunity. It is not! There are many scams that target people who are new to the modeling business.

Building a great online modeling portfolio, I'm sure you'll all know what one of those is but for those that don't it's basically a selection of pictures showing yourself in different outfits and poses. The standard size for the photos is 9 by 12 inches and you'll need around 10 - 12 photos. Make sure you focus on quality rather than quantity, remember, you're only as good as your worst photo. Make sure your online portfolio has a selection of both head shots and full body shots. Make sure you get a variety of different looks such as swimwear, catalogue and lingerie, you get the idea, also get a couple of black and white shots in there. Avoid using pictures of the same shot. It can be very advantageous to have photographs from different photographers in a portfolio. This will show the versatility in terms of styles and it will prove that a model can work with a variety of different people. Obviously, the cost of hiring different photographers for a portfolio is prohibitive, but there are many excellent photographers out there who will do prints for time - and of course many more bad ones. If you research what's on offer well, it can be an excellent alternative. Before going ahead with a photo session ask to look at the photographers portfolio to see if you like his style of photography. No doubt if you go to the photographers studio to book the appointment he will have examples of his work on display anyway. If you've never done modelling before this will also be an excellent practice run for you. Avoid photographers wanting to take nude shots, if possible take a friend with you to the shoot. Photographers who ask for nude shots may be interested in you personally.

Being in the right place at the right time can get you a gig that will make others wonder why you are always working and they are not. Networking is a must.

Do not get over excited about someone contacting you to do work. Relax and check them out. If they ask you for money ask for references. If you are good you will be noticed. Do not be in a rush to take any job.

Don't think of just getting a job, think about gaining a relationship in the business. People will always want to work with you again.

Make sure you come to a site ready to shine. If you look like you don't care, why would an agency want to work with you. Make your online profile look like you have been in this business for years. You never know who is watching you.

Quantity is not nearly as important as quality. Only show your best work. Anything less will have a negative effect. Now matter if you have 10 good photos the agent will still see that "so-so" image you stuck in there just to fill in numbers. Bring between three to five good snaps including one head shot and one full body shot to your meeting with the agent. If more are needed she'll ask for them.

This may be tempting to advance your career, but it will lead you to become a slave to the business. Don't try the quick easy way. Trust me you will get many offers to sleep with someone to get a part. Just say no and don't try to be a whistle blower. Warn personal friends to watch out for casting directors who try and sleep with models for parts. The casting couch is real.

Slouching affects the mood of the photograph and enlarges the appearances of your stomach. In addition to your back and shoulders, always remember to flex your stomach muscles. Despite your weight or state of shape, your abdomen will appear more toned if you flex.

Attend as many of these as you can. You will begin to see the same faces and they will become familiar with you. They will also start to see how serious you are about your modeling career. They want to make sure it is not just a hobby for you.

If you want to grow in the business you must reach out to people in the business. Stop waiting and hoping someone finds you. Make some noise so they know you are in the room. Network.

Casting calls can be really tricky. Some are legit and others may have a little selfish motive to them. Just make sure you always take someone with you to a casting call. Never go alone.

This is how you educate yourself on the business. You have to get knowledge. Modeling is more than how pretty you are or how sexy you can look. Education is key.

They will cost you. They don't come free. They are worth every penny. Invest in yourself. You will get a return on your money.

When it comes to modeling, it is important to know what colors make you shine. Getting a professional color test done will mean more than you even know.

If you are serious about your modeling career, you will need to travel. Everything will not just come to you or pay to fly you out. You will have to make a few sacrafices to prove yourself to be a serious person in the business.

When you do not finish your profile, no one takes you seriously. If you model for real you should have plenty of great pictures to post. Please make sure you say something about yourself. You never know who is watching you and could be the very person who can take you to the next level.
